Classic coffin-end handle, incised pointed arch drop on bowl back. Length 9 1/4" Shank heavier than the usual coin silver tablespoon. Coffin spoons are very collectable, date 1795-1825 The maker's mark is very clear, C&P in a rectangle. According to Green's "Marks of American Silversmiths" it is probably William Cleveland, Norwich, Ct. and Zanesville, Ohio. and Post though Green offers no cartouche. c. 1805 There is a monogram. Medallion silver, shovel shaped berry spoon, with ornate shaded engraving covering most of the vermeil bowl. The reverse of the bowl is also vermeil. The maker, Wendt, famous for his Medallion silver, worked in Boston and New York. Marked 925 Ball, Black & Co., who was the retailer.
