19TH CENTURY COFFIN-END COIN SILVER TABLESPOON C.1805
Classic coffin-end handle, incised pointed arch drop on bowl back. Length 9 1/4" Shank heavier than the usual coin silver tablespoon. Coffin spoons are very collectable, date 1795-1825 The maker's mark is very clear, C&P in a rectangle. According to Green's "Marks of American Silversmiths" it is probably William Cleveland, Norwich, Ct. and Zanesville, Ohio. and Post though Green offers no cartouche. c. 1805 There is a monogram. Please see picture. Tiny, tiny dent.
